The Evening Walk

Lies talked us out of the garden.
Love is walking us home.

Releasing late 2026

Most of us were handed love and fear in the same box.

You were told God loves you, and you believed it. You may have felt it early, before you had words for it. Somewhere along the way you also learned that His nearness rises and falls with your week, and that a bad enough season could cost you the closeness you had. It came wrapped in Scripture, taught by people who believed every word of it.

It began in a garden, with a conversation. God came walking in the cool of the day, and the people He made knew the sound of His steps. Then the serpent told Eve that God was holding out on her, and every lie about Him since has been a version of that one.

David spent years afraid of a sentence he was taught as a boy, that God cannot be in the presence of sin. When he finally went looking for the verse behind it, he found it isn't in the Bible. The Evening Walk traces the lies we inherited back to that first conversation, then follows God through all of Scripture as He takes back what they stole: His delight in you, and His company in an ordinary day.

The walk God began in Eden was never canceled. It moved in.

“God is after something older and simpler than your performance: a walk with you in the cool of the day.”

From the Introduction

Sixteen chapters in five parts

Two companions walk the road with you. Robert can explain grace to anyone who asks, yet he lives as though his account with God is permanently overdrawn. Sarah does everything she was taught to do and still feels graded more than loved. I wrote it for them, and for anyone who sees themselves in them.

Each chapter closes with For The Walk, a short practice to carry into your week. Every practice is offered for your healing, and you decide what to do with it.
